Innovative Learning for Sustainable Development

Just minutes from the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania, the Farm & Innovation Center (FIC) is a vibrant hub where families don’t just learn — they thrive. Here, sustainable farming and climate-smart agriculture meet hands-on entrepreneurship, all rooted in restored hope and the love of Christ.

Families come to the FIC to learn everything from goat breeding and vertical farming to soap making and business planning. But they don’t just attend — they lead. Graduates return as teachers, empowering others with the knowledge, skills, and dignity they’ve gained. This is more than a farm. It’s a community, a classroom, and a marketplace. Visitors can tour demonstration gardens, milk a goat, and taste gelato made from our own dairy goats. They can shop handmade soaps, dried spices, and artisan crafts — all created by the families we walk with.

The FIC also teaches families how planting more leads to more rain, more green cover, and more life — restoring the land God created. Here, every tree planted and every seed sown is part of transforming drought into abundance and reclaiming creation for God’s glory. At the heart of it all? Jesus. The Farm & Innovation Center is where faith is lived out, futures are restored, and poverty is uprooted — one family, one relationship, one harvest at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions About the FIC

Having a farm serves four vital purposes:

  1. To teach new techniques and practices for growing new foods so the community can taste and see that IT IS GOOD.
  2. To breed our own goats so we can provide the best quality to our families.
  3. To change the biosphere and restore the land in Karatu and teach others to do the same.
  4. To be self-sufficient. Just as we help our families to find a means to sustain themselves, FFHC wants to be self-sufficient as well through offering tours and training to visitors and the wider community.
Goats are a sustainable and valuable resource for families in rural Tanzania, but most raise meat goats. FFHC teaches families to raise dairy goats, which provide up to four liters of rich milk a day—initially used to support families and provide much-needed nutrition. FFHC families don’t have enough land for cattle, and goats are a better choice for many reasons: they eat far less than cows, thrive on limited land, and are more efficient milk producers. Their milk is less likely to cause lactose issues, and dairy goats have a shorter gestation period and are more likely to produce twins, triplets, and quadruplets than cows.

Their manure fertilizes crops—more than doubling the harvest—and their urine can be turned into biofuel for cooking and lighting homes. Over time, families can sell goat milk and/or goat kids, using that income to send children to school, build safe and structurally sound homes, start independent businesses, and pay for medical expenses.

These practices are shared throughout the community, as the first-born doe is passed to another family, and the teaching process begins again.

The Farm and Innovation Center (FIC) of Food for His Children is a powerful engine for sustainability—not only environmentally, but also economically, socially, and spiritually. It equips families and communities to steward God’s resources wisely while generating income through agriculture, tourism, and product sales. This income directly supports FFHC’s programs that walk with families out of extreme poverty, helping build lasting transformation rooted in dignity, discipleship, and innovation.
Our founder traveled to Karatu District in 2005 with her church. God showed her the needs of the community putting His compassion for them within her. His providence was incredible as at the time Karatu was not a big tourist area. As time unfolded, the Ngorongoro Crater brought hundreds of tourists through FIC. Another part of His amazing plan was displayed through the local primary school where 700 students learned about farming. The Lord orchestrated a wonderful opportunity to support our families, serve the community, and fund the ministry.

The Farm and Innovation Center (FIC) provides Christ-centered training in agriculture, dairy goat management, entrepreneurship, healthy living, agribusiness, and the Street Business School. Visitors can meet the families we support, hear their stories of transformation, and purchase their products—directly enhancing their livelihoods.

The FIC also breeds high-quality dairy goats to give to families, offers educational tours for visitors from around the globe, and provides internships and volunteer opportunities for those wishing to learn, research, or share their gifts. In addition, it supplies organically grown produce to the local community and to lodges and restaurants. We are also working toward creating a creamery that will produce goat-milk products—primarily for tourists and lodges—along with handmade picnic baskets filled with farm-fresh foods for safari groups. As the center grows, income from tourism experiences and visitor engagement will play a significant role in sustaining the FIC and strengthening the broader programs of Food for His Children, helping us serve more families for years to come.
